Having a couple good friends during a deployment or TDY is very important. Just like our soldiers have battle buddies it’s important for military spouses on the home front to have a battle buddy.
What’s a Battle Buddy?
A Battle buddy is someone who experiences the good and the ugly of a deployment with you. These buddies are our confidantes, the people you rely on and they are your family. How does one find a battle buddy when you are new to the state or country? You could volunteer at your installation, attend family readiness group meetings, attend spouse coffees, join a mom’s group or even volunteer at a school. There are so many places to meet people. You just need to get out there and find them.
While a military spouse may find more comfort in having a battle buddy whose spouse is deployed or on TDY is best. Since they understand what you are going through. Please note a battle buddy can be any one. I have had battle buddies who are Military spouses, family members and civilian friends. And I love each and every one of them. I couldn’t have made it this far without them.
