Hey mom, did you realize today is Halloween? It would be a very “me” move to forget until the day of. We don’t do any of the local activities and as a homeschooling family, we don’t have any school requirements. So, come Halloween day, that’s when we get it together costume wise.
If you don’t have a large bucket of dress up clothes for your kids to play with on the regular, it may be difficult to come up with a spur of the moment Halloween costume. Don’t worry, we’re here to help.
Top 5 Kid’s Costumes From Around The House
5 – Parents: Even though we have an enormous supply of dress up costumes, my kids have actually chosen this one in the past. What should they wear? Depends on how they see you. But, carry a baby of some kind. I felt some relief one of the times my daughter dressed up as a mom that she tried to look nice. Then my son told her she looked too nice to be a mom (drop head in shame).
4 – Sports Fan: I’ve done this one myself. And this works if your family is currently a fan of any sport. Then, just wear whatever gear they have. Bonus points if they carry equipment of that sport.
3 – Scarecrow: Grab a stick or two outside for extra authenticity, have them get dressed up in old clothes and have them wobble as they walk. If you have access to hay, stick it out of their pants, otherwise don’t even worry about it – they will still get candy just for showing up.
2 – Bum: Where I grew up in a small town in northwestern Pennsylvania, this was always a hot one. Again with old clothes, the older and more mismatched, the better. Rub dirt on their face (fun for both mom and kid). Grab a stick and tie an old shirt on it like a hankie and call it a day. Wild Turkey bottles make a fun accessory in the less judgy neighborhoods.
1 – Static Cling: Talk about science and Halloween in one day! Have them dress in their clothes, then grab your mismatched sock bag and pin them on their clothes. Finally a use for those mismatched socks that you’ll never find partners for (I know, I keep trying too).
